It all starts with a brass-bar… Discover how the main plate of a Zenith movement is produced…

Brass, brass and again brass … the Zenith-stock of brass in Le Locle …

… at this point it is hard to imagine that these bars will once be movements …

… the brass is now stamped in a rectangular form …

… some tons of weight and a special tool cut the brass …

… this photograph shows the stamping …

… the brass-bar now has rectangular holes …

… waste material …

… now the height of the cut rectangular brass pieces has to be adjusted …

… unnecessary material is abraded …

… one by one is getting ready …

… after cleaning the rectangular pieces of brass are ready for manufacturing …

… this machine does the work …

… this CNC-machining-center park now is turning a rectangular piece of brass into a main plate of a Zenith movement …

… tools for drilling an milling …

… a CNC-machine at work …

… the tridimensional axes “X”, “Y” and “Z” define what the CNC-machine has to do…

… older CNC-drilling and -milling-machines are cooled and steadily cleaned by oil …

… oil for cooling and cleaning is everywhere, recycled and reused …

… this historical machine trills holes at “2” and “4” in the main plate of the calibre 4021/4046/4047 …

… historical machines are still involved in the manufacturing process …

… the CNC-machines line up like soldiers …
… for a better understanding what is going on and to discover the original “sound” of these CNC-machines the movie will show some details of drilling and milling with oil …

… this is are the brand new Fleury CNC-machines that drill and mill without oil …

… the plates are manufactured by themselves, the machine forwards the plate to the next operating procedure …

… the plates are piled and automatically manufactured …

… after manufacturing they are piled again …

… the Fleury-CNC-machines works without oil for cooling …

… another “tower” of main plates to be manufactured …

… a collection of movements parts that have been drilled and milled …

I greatly enjoyed the tour and seeing the CNC machines in action. Be it trilling or drilling, this is the start of what I’m sure will be a terrific series and I look forward to viewing the rest with anticipation. Thank you!
Tadas, thank you for your comment and compliment!
I do apologise for my bad spelling… my mother tongue is German and I simply did not realise trilling was wrong. By the way: my guide Maud spoke french with me, so it is not her fault either…
I will change trilling to drilling tomorrow.
But in the end what counts most for me is that you liked my tour

Very nice tour. Although the CNC machine processes mainly are drilling (not “trilling”) and milling. Maybe you heard wrong (or it was told in bad accent), but it just wrong to see “trilling”.
